| The Piacenza site of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, founded in 1953 with the opening of the
Faculty of Agriculture, is today a modern university campus whose buildings, including lecture theatres,
laboratories, library and sports facilities, are located together in a single area of over 27,000 sq. m., to
facilitate students in their daily lives with relation to the university. There are now more than 3,000
students following courses in the four faculties now open: Faculty of Agriculture - degrees in Agricultural
Science and Food Science and Technology, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Education
Sciences (opened in 1998).
The site is well known abroad as an excellent site for research and education.
The Istituto di Chimica Agraria ed Ambientale, research group involved in the present project, is part of the Agriculture Faculty of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (UCSC). The ICAA-UCSC is involved in pollutant research programs (trace element, heavy metal, pesticide, organic pollutant, radionuclide) on field and laboratory evaluation of dissipation in soil, water and crops. Level of contamination of samples coming from monitoring, outdoor and laboratory experiment is measured in a well-equipped laboratories for residues analysis. Forecasting of the environmental fate of pollutant is done using appropriate indices, models and an expert system. Statistical analysis and model evaluation as well the collection and management of residues data are carried out on mini- and personal computers. |
